Beard Marine is an authorized repair facility for Marine Air, Cruisair and Aqua Air air conditioning, Sea Recovery and HRO water makers, U-line and Grunert refrigeration, as well as Eskimo Ice Machine and other manufacturers.

Beard Marine is your advocate in the warranty process. We are an independent contractor who has established, during 25 years of A/C, refrigeration, and water maker business, close working relationships with yacht equipment manufacturers and yacht builders.

Manufacturers generally offer parts replacement and limited labor allowances to effect repairs on their equipment. Warranty work is undertaken using guidelines supplied by the manufacturer and detailed in literature included with the product as it is shipped from the factory. The equipment owner's manual is the best source for warranty information.

Yacht builder warranty issues are usually addressed at the point of sales facility but Beard Marine has been requested to contribute its expertise to resolve air conditioning, water maker and refrigeration issues by such builders as Hatteras, Sunseeker, Broward, Viking, Lazzara, Carver, and Burger.

Most warranties contain the phrase "limited warranty". Beard Marine understands "limited" to mean that time periods are set during which equipment is under warranty, that labor allowances are limited to specific dollar amounts for specific repair procedures, and that parts may be replaced or repaired at the manufacturers option. When repairs require more money than is allowed by the warranty it is the responsibility of the customer to make up the balance. The customer needs to clearly understand all the allowances and limitations involved before undertaking a "warranty" repair. Beard Marine is here to help.

Beard Marine warrants its labor on repairs to existing systems to be free of defects due to faulty workmanship for 30 days from the date of completion of the repair. On complete system installations Beard warrants its labor to be free from defects due to faulty workmanship for a period of 1 year from the date of completion of the installation. Manufacturer's warranties apply to materials used in connection with the repair.

  • Owner's name and address
  • Boat name and builder
  • Hull number of vessel or registration number
  • Manufacturer, model and serial number of defective equipment
  • Date of purchase of the vessel or equipment
With this information, Beard Marine is able to approach the equipment maker and present a case for obtaining funding for the repair.

A typical repair would progress as follows: The customer contacts Beard Marine, describes the problem, and supplies the necessary warranty information. Beard contacts the manufacturer, verifies that the item is warrantable, determines the warranty allowance and then travels to the vessel. On board, Beard determines whether the problem is a manufacturing defect or a problem resulting from faulty installation. If the problem is a defect in manufacturing and the required information has been supplied, Beard fixes the problem and is reimbursed by the manufacturer. Should the problem result from poor installation, Beard would contact the boat builder or installer and obtain permission to continue the repair. Work might have to stop while arrangements were made for the third party to pay for the repair. The owner always has the option of paying Beard to continue the repair with Beard supplying the paper work necessary for the owner to approach the installer for reimbursement. If the repair requires more work than is covered by the manufacturer's schedule of allowances, Beard will approach the manufacturer for a "nonstandard", or larger, warranty allowance. Again, work may have to halt while arrangements are made. In the event that the manufacturer will not cover an overage, it is the yacht owner's responsibility to make up the difference. Beard makes every attempt at avoiding this circumstance and seeks to provide the yacht owner with options to prevent warranty overages.
